Preparing Men for Change

Overview

Preparing Men for Change is a domestic abuse perpetrator programme of up to 20 1-1 sessions. It is suitable for those who cannot attend group work due to mental health issues or language barriers. The exercises are designed to be delivered sequentially, with the first 2 sessions aimed at building a relationship with the participant and preparing the context for later sessions. Sessions are approximately 60 minutes long and delivered online or in-person to medium to high risk individuals.

The aims of the Preparing Men for Change programme are to:

  • Increase awareness of what constitutes a healthy relationship based on equality
  • Increase awareness of behaviours that constitute domestic abuse and how it impacts the partner
  • Increase understanding of the negative impact of abusive behaviour on their children and ways to improve relationships with children
  • Provide strategies for avoiding violence and abuse

Support for Victims

Contact will be made with the current or ex-partners of the participant affected by the abuse. A service will be offered that provides safety planning information and support whilst the participants are attending the programme.

RISE Domestic Abuse Safety Advisors (DASA’s) are trained specialists who offer support to individuals who have experienced domestic abuse. Every time RISE facilitators work with a service user on a programme addressing domestic abuse, they will ensure that support is offered to the partner.
